The Romanian harpist graduated the National University of Music in Bucharest, where he was a pupil of Liana Pasquali. In 1977 and 1979 he studied with professor Pearl Chertok in New York.

Ion Ivan-Roncea is Soloist of the Bucharest George Enescu Philharmonic and Professor of harp at the National University of Music in Bucharest.

Roncea distinguished himself as one of Romania's most popular musicians, playing with all the Philharmonic Orchestras in his country, and performing numerous recitals.

He has toured extensively in: Austria, Germany, France, England, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey, Israel, Moldova, Russia, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Walles, Serbia, Slovakia, China, U.S.A., Switzerland, playing on important concert stages: Grosses Schauspielhaus and Mozarteum Hall in Salzburg, Schauspielhaus in Berlin, Radio Hall in Frankfurt/Main, Radio Hall and Odd Fellow Palaet in Copenhagen, Radio Hall, Saint David’s Hall and Reardon Smith Theatre in Cardiff, Philharmonic Hall in Liege, Megaro Musikis in Athens, Vigado Hall and Franz Liszt Academy of Music Hall in Budapest, Philharmonic Hall in Bratislava, Romanian Atheneum Hall in Bucharest, Palacio de Congresos-Auditorio in La Coruna, Palais des Beaux Arts in Bruxelles, LInstitut Hall in Orleans, Alfred Cortot Hall in Paris.

Ion Ivan-Roncea appeared as soloist with major orchestras such as: Vienna Philharmonic, Dresdner Philharmonic, Liege Philharmonic, Janacek Philharmonic, Bucharest George Enescu Philharmonic, Athens State Orchestra, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, Cardiff BBC Symphony, Prague Radio Symphony, Jerusalem Symphony, Europa Symphony, Collegium Musicum Copenhagen, Concerto, Paul Kuentz and Budapest Strings chamber orchestras, and the French Flutes Orchestra.

He played also in prestigeous music Festivals, such as: the Salzburg, Vienna, Budapest, Belgrade, Maastricht, Istambul, Cardiff, La Coruna, and Bucharest George Enescu.

As soloist and/or principal harpist of the Bucharest George Enescu Philharmonic Roncea played with important conductors: Sergiu Celibidache, Seiji Ozawa, Sir Neville Marriner, Genady Rodjetsvensky, Horst Stein, Sir Charles Groves, Michel Plasson, Mendi Rodan, Erich Bergel, Pierre Bartholomee, Sergiu Comissiona, Edvard Civjel, Ronald Zollman, Christian Badea, Cristian Mandeal, Horia Andreescu, Ion Marin, Dorel Pascu-Radulescu, Ferenc Gabor, and soloists: Wolfgang Schulz, Pierre-Yves Artaud, Toke Lund-Christiansen, Janos Balint, Pierre-Alain Biget, Gavril Costea, Virgil Francu, Ion Bogdan Stefanescu, Aurelian Octav Popa, Dan Grigore, Stefan Ruha, Martin Haselbock, Marin Cazacu, Gheorghe Crasnaru, Georgeta Stoleru, Johnny Raducanu, Maria Bildea, Ioana Nicolescu, Marisa Robles, Chantal Mathieu, Kumiko Inoue, Alice Giles, Naoko Yoshino etc.

He has been invited several times to the World Harp Congresses as guest artist and professor. Between 1985-1990 he was member of the Board of Directors of the World Harp Congress.

Ion Ivan-Roncea played and has recorded for important Radio and TV Stations: Budapest, Vienna, Jerusalem, Paris, BBC - Cardiff, Copenhagen, Frankfurt/Main, WQXR - New York, Athens, Prague, Sofia and Bucharest. Some of his best recordings made in Bucharest are incorporated in the National Treasured Sound Collection. He also has made several Records, CDs, and DVDs for the Arte Nova Classics-BMG, AIX Records and Electrecord Companies, and appeared in several programs for Radio and Television in Romania and abroad.

In October 2007 Roncea organized, successfuly, the first Harp Festival and Harp Exhibition in Romania.

Many of his students or former students have an active presence on the concert stage as soloists or as members of different music enssembles. Some of them: Maria Bildea, Ina Zdorovetchi Stasha Grujic, Ioana Nicolescu, Sonja Inglefield, Judith Wunderlich, Anca Beck, Ionela Bradean, Roxana Moisanu, Anna Dermani, Gabriela Chihaescu, Miruna Vidican, Ioana Comsa, are laureats of National and International Contests. He has taught also at the Master Classes in the United Kingdom, Greece, Hungary, France, USA, Austria, Moldova, Russia, Serbia, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Holland.

He served in the Juries of the International Harp Contests in Israel (1988, 1992, 2009), Cardiff (1991, 1993), ASTH-Lyon (1993), Salvi-Saluzzo (1995), Geneva (1997), German Harp Contest-Weikersheim (1998), Iosef Reinl-Munich (1999), Martine Geliot-Lille (1999), Chisinau (2001), Iosef Reinl-Vienna (2002), UNMB-Bucharest (2002), Lily Laskine-Deauville (2002), ARD-Munich (2004), Belgrade (2005), German Harp Contest-Schlitz (2007), Martine Geliot-Avon (2007), European Young Musicians Competition-romanian national selection (2004, 2006, 2008), Petar Konjovic-Belgrade (2009). In October 2009 he was the Vice - President of the Jury at the International Harp Contest in Israel.

In June 2009 he became Doctor of Music at the National University of Music in Bucharest.

His repertoire includes original classic and contemporary works for harp, transcriptions, pop, jazz and latin-american pieces, as well as chamber and orchestral music.

Activitatea solistică și pedagogică


După absolvirea Universităţii Naționale de Muzică din București Ion Ivan-Roncea s-a impus în scurt timp ca unul dintre cei mai apreciaţi artişti români, cântând cu toate Filarmonicile din ţară şi susţinând numeroase recitaluri ce s-au bucurat de o foarte bună primire din partea publicului şi a criticii.

A întreprins turnee în Austria, Germania, Franța, Anglia, Belgia, Olanda, Danemarca, Spania, Italia, Grecia, Bulgaria, Turcia, Israel, Moldova, Rusia, Polonia, Ungaria, Republica Cehă, Țara Galilor, Serbia, Slovacia, China, SUA, cântând pe importante scene de concert precum: Grosses Schauspielhaus și Sala „Mozarteum” din Salzburg, Sala Schauspielhaus din Berlin, Sala Radio din Frankfurt pe Main, Sala Radio și „Odd Fellow Palaet” din Copenhaga, Sala Radio, „Saint David”s Hall și „Reardon Smith” Theatre din Cardiff, Sala Filarmonicii din Liege, Sala „Megaro Musikis” din Atena, Sala „Vigado” și Sala Academiei de Muzică „Franz Liszt” din Budapesta, Sala Filarmonicii din Bratislava, Palacio de Congresos-Auditorio din La Coruna, Palais des Beaux Arts din Bruxelles, Sala „Alfred Cortot” din Paris, Sala „L"Institut” din Orleans, și a apărut ca solist cu Filarmonicile din Viena, Dresda, Liege, Salonic, Atena, Maastricht, Ierusalim, Ostrawa („Janacek”), București („George Enescu”).

A apărut ca solist în Festivalurile „George Enescu" (București), Salzburg, Viena, Maastricht, Cardiff, Budapesta, Belgrad, Gödöllö, La Coruna şi în Congresele Mondiale de Harpă din Olanda, Israel, Austria, Franţa și Cehia.

Ion Ivan-Roncea a cântat în direct şi a fãcut înregistrări pentru posturi importante de Radio şi Televiziune precum: Viena, Copenhaga, Paris, Frankfurt pe Main, WQXR - NewYork, BBC – Cardiff, Ierusalim, Praga, Sofia, Budapesta şi Bucureşti, unele dintre acestea din urmă intrând în „Fonoteca de Aur” a Radiodifuziunii Romane.

De asemenea, a înregistrat numeroase discuri LP, CD-uri și DVD-uri pentru Casa de discuri Electrecord, ARTE NOVA Classics (Germania/Austria), AIX Records (SUA), şi a apărut în emisiuni şi producţii de radio şi televiziune în Romania şi în străinătate.

În octombrie 2007 a organizat primul festival și prima expoziție de harpă din România.

A susţinut cursuri în Grecia, Ungaria, Franţa, Olanda, Marea Britanie, Cehia, Austria, Serbia, Moldova, Italia, Elveția, Germania, Rusia, S.U.A. şi a fost invitat în Juriile Concursurilor Internaţionale de Harpă din Israel, Cardiff, Geneva, Lille, Chișinău, A.S.T.H-Lyon, „Lily Laskine”, „Salvi”-Saluzzo, „Josef Reinl”-München/Viena, „Martine Geliot”-Avon/Fontainbleau, A.R.D. - München, Concursul organizat de Universitatea Națională de Muzică din București, Concursul german de harpă (Weikersheim, Schlitz), Eurovision Young Musicians Competition, Belgrade, „Petar Konjovic”, Szeged.

Ca pedagog este preocupat de formarea unor harpiști-muzicieni, încercând să le insufle studenților dragostea pentru muzică și harpă. Majoritatea studenților și absolvenților clasei de harpă de la Universitatea Națională de Muzică din București au o prezență activă pe scenele de concert, atât ca soliști, cât și ca membri ai unor ansambluri camerale și orchestrale. Cei mai merituoși dintre aceștia sunt laureați ai unor concursuri naționale și internaționale, nume ca Maria Bâldea, Anca Beck, Ioana Nicolescu, Ina Zdorovețchi, Sonja Inglefield, Judith Wunderlich-Pop, Stasha Grujic, Ionela Brădean, Roxana Moișanu, Anna Dermani, Gabriela Chihăescu, Miruna Vidican impunându-se în viața muzicală.

Repertoriul lui Ion Ivan-Roncea cuprinde lucrări clasice şi contemporane pentru harpă, transcripţii, piese pop, jazz, latino, precum şi opusuri camerale și orchestrale.

Ion Ivan-Roncea este membru al Asociaţiei Internaţionale a Harpiştilor şi al Congresului Mondial de Harpă, din al cărui Directorat a făcut parte între anii 1985-1990.

Ion Ivan – Roncea a étudié au Lycée de Musique “Dinu Lipatti” et à l’Université Nationale de Musique de Bucarest, étant l’élève des professeurs Marica Pessione, Maria Belli et de Liana Pasquali. De même, il a suivi des cours de maîtrise avec Pearl Chertok, professeur à New York, en 1977 et 1979.

Il a participé à des tournées en Europe, au Moyen Orient, en Chine, en Russie et aux Etats-Unis, en tant que soliste accompagné par les Philharmonies de Vienne, Dresde, Liège, “Janacek”-Ostrawa, “Georges Enesco”-Bucarest, Salonique, Athène, Maastricht, par les Orchestres Radio de Bucarest, Jérusalem, Francfort, BBC Cardiff, Prague, ainsi que par les Ensembles "Paul Kuentz", “Collegium Musicum” - Copenhague, Europa Symphony et Budapest Strings.


Toujours comme interprète, il a paru à l’occasion des Festivals “Georges Enesco”-Bucarest, Salsbourg, Vienne, Maastricht, Cardiff, Budapest, Belgrade, La Corogne, ainsi qu’aux Congrès Mondiales de Harpe de Hollande, Israel, Autriche, France, République Tchèque.


Ion Ivan – Roncea a joué en direct et a fait des enrégistrements pour des compagnies de Radio et Télévision importantes telles que Vienne, Jérusalem, Copenhague, Paris, Francfort-sur-le-Maïn, WQXR – New York, BBC – Cardiff, Prague, Sofia, Budapest et Bucarest, certaines pièces instrumentales faisant partie de la “Phonothèque d’Or”.


Il a enrégistré beaucoup de disques, CD, DVD et a paru dans des émissions et productions de radio et de telévision.


A présent, Ion Ivan – Roncea exerce son activité de soliste instrumentiste à la Philharmonie “Georges Enesco” et celle de professeur à l’Université Nationale de Musique de Bucarest.

Ion Ivan – Roncea fait partie des membres de l’Association Internationale des Harpistes et a été l’un des Directeurs du Congrès Mondiale de Harpe entre 1985 et 1990.


Son répertoire comprend des pièces classiques et contemporaines pour harpe, transcriptions, des pièces pop, jazz, latino, ainsi que de la musique de chambre et orchestre.

Ion Ivan Roncea estudió el arpa en el Liceo de Música “Dinu Lipatti” y la Universidad de Música de Bucarest, con las famosas profesoras Marica Pessione, María Belli y Liana Pasquali. Realizo también una maestría con la arpista Pearl Chertok en Nueva York, 1977 y 1979.

Recién egresado de la Universidad de Música, Ion Ivan Roncea se impuso como uno de los más apreciados intérpretes rumanos, en calidad de solista, acompañado por la mayoría de las Orquestas Filarmónicas de Rumania y en numerosos recitales muy bien recibidos por el público y la crítica musical.

Realizó giras por Europa, el Oriente Medio, Rusia, China, EE.UU., participando en conciertos con las Filarmónicas de Viena, Dresda, Liege, Praga, Salónica, Atena, Maastricht; con las Orquestas Radio de Jerusalén, Frankfurt, BBC-Cardiff, Praga y con los conjuntos “Collegium Musicum” de Copenhaguen, Europa Symphony y Budapest Strings.

Participó también como solista en los Festivales Internacionales de Bucarest (“George Enescu”), Salzburgo, Viena, Maastricht, Cardiff, Budapest, Belgrad, La Coruña y en los Congresos Mundiales de Arpa de Holanda, Israel, Austria, Francia, y la República Checa.

Ha hecho grabaciones para importantes canales de Radio y Televisión en Sofía, Budapest, Viena, Jerusalén, Copenhaguen, Paris, Frankfurt, WQXR –New York, BBC-Cardiff, Praga y Bucarest. Tiene grabados, además, varios CD y DVD.

Ion Ivan Roncea combina la actividad interpretativa con la pedagógica, siendo a la vez solista de la Filarmónica “George Enescu” y Profesor en la Universidad Nacional de Música de Bucarest. Ha dado también clases de maestría en Grecia, Francia, Serbia, Holanda, Gran Bretaña, la República Checa, Rusia, EE.UU. y fue miembro del jurado en varios Concursos Internacionales de Arpa: Israel, Cardiff, Lyon, Paris/Deauville, Saluzzo, ARD-Munich, Weikersheim, Belgrad, Lille, Ginebra, Viena.

Es miembro de la Asociación Internacional de Arpistas y del Congreso Mundial de Arpa, de cuya junta Directiva hizo parte entre los años 1985 – 1990.

Su repertorio incluye obras clásicas y contemporáneas para arpa, transcripciones, piezas pop-jazz, latinoamericanas y creaciones camerales.
